AARS CASE STUDY
In 2008, the AARS began to see great things happening with the Friends of the San Jose Rose Garden, and decided to develop a "Case Study" around the group. It would be used to help the other 140+ AARS Accredited Public Rose Garden in the U.S. with ideas and inspiration.
Below is the Case Study sent in 2009, and the text of the cover letter sent with it. You will notice the similarity between our newsletters, and the case study. The AARS liked the our newsletter format so much, they decided it was perfect for the Case Study.
Dear AARS Public Garden Members:
Happy New Year!
The folks at AARS wanted to share a case study with you, which we recently completed with our friends at the San Jose Municipal Rose Garden. It is a truly inspiring story...
The AARS had placed the garden on probation in 2005 due to insufficient pruning, deadheading and weeding, as well as prevalent black spot, rust and mildew throughout the garden. There were several reasons the garden had its fall from grace, most of which focused on staffing and budget cuts. Although the odds were stacked against them they were determined to change the course their treasured garden had taken. Due to some very innovative efforts lead by dedicated local rosarians and community volunteers, the garden was able to make a complete recovery!
The AARS worked closely with San Jose Garden representatives to draft the attached case study. The study tells a great story and covers every detail of their efforts to turn the garden around. We wanted to share this information with all of you. In the current economy, everyone, including our beautiful public gardens, is susceptible to declining budgets and staffing issues. We hope you find this information useful—or at the very least inspirational.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions and have a wonderful New Year!
